Who Am I!

Sai Baba of Shirdi, recognised as an avatar, who even today has a very large number of devotees through out the world passed away in 1918. He had announced to one of his devotees that he would re-incarnate in eight years time.

Eight years after his passing away, on 23rd November 1926, a child was born to Venkappa Raju and Mother Easwaramma (Easwaramma which means mother of god) in a little village named Puttaparthi in the state of Andhra Pradesh in South India. For several nights before that, the household had been awakened by the twanging of musical instruments - a big Tambura on the wall and a maddala (drum) were playing on their own. The spirit-world was voicing its welcome. He was named Sathya Narayan (meaning the true lord Narayana) Narayana is the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, so that Narayana is God in his entirety.

The baby grew to be a child, but no ordinary child!

At the age of Forteen, old Sathya was sitting on a boulder, teaching people a bhajan - "Manasa Bhajore Guru Charanam". His father outraged at such affrontery, ask him who on the earth He thought he was, and by that authority was he behaving like that. "I am Sai Baba", he answered, and threw a handful of jasmine flowers that formed themselves into letters "Sai Baba" as they fell on the ground. At that day he announced that he was "SAI BABA" and his previous incarnation was in Shirdi, a place these villagers did not know existed. Shortly after his announcement that he was Sai Baba, he declared that his devotees were calling him and that he had work to do, and so he left home. He established a small temple in Puttaparthi, which has grown in size since then and is presently known as "Prasanthi Nilayam" (The Abode Of Supreme Peace).

Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba ( or Baba or Swami as he is often fondly called) has displayed all the powers of an avatar (God Incarnated). He has powers to heal the sick, restore sight to the blind, restore the used of limbs which have been crippled either since birth or during the illness, appear in many places at the same time, come to the rescue of devotees who are in trouble and even raise the dead to life.

Baba produces "Vibhuti" (Fragrant smelling ash) with a wave of his hand from either, (It is interesting to note that Sri Shirdi Sai Baba maintained a dhuni fire, which burned continuously and he gave ash from it to his devotees). This ash the "Vibhuti" has been known to have various powers of healing, reducing pain, eliminating worries and even calming the mind. Sai Baba also produces, with a wave of his hand, bracelets, rings, sweets, and whatever else he may desire.

All of Baba's devotees, and there are hundreds of thousands of them throughout this world have accepted him as god and in their own way have experienced "Miracles". Sri Sathya Sai Baba has not come to this world to give it a new religion or cult. In fact he says that one should adhere to ones own religion - be it Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, or any other and practice it assiduously. He says that there is only one god and all religions are pathways leading to him.

His teachings which he gives in discourses are profound yet simple put so that even the unlearned can understand them. None of his speeches is prepared and he speaks with a fluency and command of words which is phenomenal. He speaks various languages fluently and his knowledge of the religions of the world is amazing. He has given detailed meanings behind the various religions statements which have baffled even the greatest of scholars. He has knowledge of every subject in the world, which is unbelievable considering that has his formal education was limited as he left school at the age of fourteen.

The founders of different religions/ faiths in the world were all persons filled with love and wisdom. Their goal, their purpose, their target, their aims were all the same. None of them had the desire to divine, disturb or destroy. They attempted to do good, see good and be good.

Be it that as it may, however, at present atrocities are committed in the name of religion! Sai Baba has come to awaken the human race and to restore them on to the god-ward path from which the humans have deviated despite the teaching of various religions.

"WHY" I INCARNATE?

For the protection of the virtuous for the destruction of evil doers, and for establishing righteousness on a firm footing, I incarnate from age to age whenever ashanti or disharmony over-whelms the world. The lord will incarnate in human form to establish the modes of earning prashanti or peace, and to re-educate the human community in the path of peace.

Saints, Sages and Sadhus prayed and I have come. The lord has no intention to publicise himself. I do not need any publicity nor does any other avatar of the lord.

The establishment of dhrama righteousness, is my aim; the teaching of dhrama, the spread of dhrama is my object. The removal of misery and distress is incidental to my mission. "Divine Will" cannot be limited or slowed down and hindered. My activities and movements will never be altered.

I am engaged in the task for which I have come. I shall not stop. I am full of bliss. Many hesitate to believe that things will improve, that life be happy for all and full of joy and that the Golden Age will return. Let me assure you that this "Dhramaswarupa" this divine body has not come in vain, it will succeed in warding off the crises that has come upon humanity.
