Purpose of singing the name of Guru:

Guru is he who removes darkness. He is a light to show one the road to God. He destroys the illusion and sheds light; his presence is cool and comforting. In order to realise God, one should approach a Guru who know the Truth by experience and whose daily activities, words, and thoughts reflect realisation. Guru is a light to show one the road to Godhead.
