An Avatar is the appearance of God in human form.

Many thousands of years ago there was a sage called Bharadwaja who was interested in mastering the ancient scriptures (Vedas). He was advised to perform a sacrifice and headed towards Kailash (the abode of Shiva/Shakthi) in the Himalayas. When he arrived there seeking the couple, he found that they were involved in a cosmic dance. He waited eight days and failing to realise the welcome smile he got from Shakthi, left there to return to his home with the feeling that he had been ignored.

On his descent, he fell in a stroke with his left side paralysed as a result of exhaustion & cold. Shiva then cured him completely by sprinkling water on him. Shiva consoled him and both Shiva & Shakthi granted him a boon. He was promised that they would both take birth in his lineage – first Shiva alone, then Shiva/Shakthi followed by Shakthi alone.

This is the triple Sai incarnation. This trinity appears as Shirdi Sai Baba, Sathya Sai Baba & Prema Sai Baba in this order. First the Shiva aspect as Shirdi Sai Baba, then the Shiva/Shakthi aspect as Sathya Sai Baba and the third the Shakthi aspect as Prema Sai Baba.

‘God works in a mysterious way’ and the reason for the triple incarnation is a mystery for us mere mortals. The first, Shirdi Sai Baba revealed antharayami (the Indwelling Lord in the human heart) and made us aware of this divine existence. Sathya Sai Baba is teaching us to awaken this divinity that is within us and Prema Sai Baba would promote & spread the message. It is only when the Divine takes form, we humans can comprehend the Formless Absolute.

Although the three bodies are different and appear at different times in our history, the common factor is that all three have the same divine spirit.

In order of appearance, first was Shirdi Sai Baba born on the 28th of September 1835. Before leaving His physical body on the 15th of October 1918, He declared that he would reincarnate eight years after his ‘passing’.

On the 23rd of November 1926, the birth of the current Avatar, Sathya Sai Baba took place.

In the 1950s Sathya Sai Baba materialised a locket for a devotee. The locket contained three pictures – one of each of the Babas. The locket is kept with this devotee. This is the first mention by Sathya Sai Baba of the forthcoming Baba. He later mentioned Prema Sai Baba on the 6th of July 1963. Close devotees were told that Prema Sai Baba would be born in the village of Ganuparthy, on the banks of the River Cauvery in the district of Mandaya in the State of Karnataka, South India. This birth would take place about eight years after Sathya Sai Baba, our current Avatar, leaves His physical body at the age of 96. Sathya Sai Baba reaffirmed that Prema Sai Baba would promote the awareness that not only does God reside in everybody, but also everybody is god. This knowledge and wisdom would pave the way for our path to God.

Sathya Sai Baba also materialised a ring with a picture of Prema Sai Baba for another devotee. We are also given to understand that Sathya Sai Baba gave close devotees an insight into the forthcoming avatar. This new avatar would have long straight hair unlike the curly hair of our current avatar. Most people see a resemblance to Christ. His face would be a personification of Shanti (Peace) & Prema (love). He would be slim & tall and in the eyes of ordinary people He would be handsome. Some devotees know that the Mother of Prema Sai Baba would be none other than our beloved Professor Kasturi (Biographer of Sathya Sai Baba). It is also revealed that the father of Prema Sai Baba has been born in Karnataka.

During the time of Prema Sai Baba, there would be a separate ashram with a huge Shiva temple. He would have the gigantic task of uplifting humanity and take them towards God. His work would be for the good of all mankind irrespective of race, religion, caste, colour, creed etc. The main pillars would be Love, Goodwill, Brotherhood & Peace.

We, the mortal devotees who do not achieve moksha (liberation) in this life, by the grace of our Lord, sincerely hope that we would be in body during the time of Prema Sai Baba.
